(1) Tom Hanks vs. (16) James Caan

Hello, and welcome to the #top64actors bracketology, prepared and determined by myself (@ChrisRadez) and @follow_sarah. We also receive assistance in deciding who moves on and who doesn't from our following on Twitter. This is the first of what will be many blog posts as we analyze each matchup in our bracket, en route to deciding who is the greatest actor of our time.

This first matchup is pretty obvious.

While James Caan has had a pretty interesting career, having been nominated for an Oscar in 1973 under the category of "Best Actor in a Supporting Role" for his part in The Godfather, and also widely known for his role in the holiday movie Elf as the long-lost father of man who was raised by elves...it's fairly obvious that Tom Hanks would be an overwhelming favorite in this matchup.

Since I fully expect Hanks to appear on this blog multiple times as he makes his way through the bracket of challengers, I'll touch on just one of his many unbelievable performances here.

Cast Away (2000) - Tom Hanks' role in this one film outperforms anything James Caan has ever done during his acting career. Hanks spent 80% of this movie by himself, on a deserted island... with a soccer ball as his most involved supporting cast.

His adventure on the island displays emotions of every kind, from urgently attempting to flag for help, to realizing his fate and using anything he can find to get himself back to safety... and he nailed every expression.

Hanks truly makes you understand what it might feel like to be completely alone and stranded.

As expected, Tom Hanks over James Caan to move onto the second round. Stay tuned for our second matchup, coming soon!
